They could be pointers instead of simple writes...

Edit:

Just tried them, they work fine.

FYI the 'Always gain max Picara' code isn't perfect for now. If you make a mistake, the game will still know it, and your score in the puzzle index won't be maxed out.
I'll fix it soon.

Edit :
Code:
Press R or L to have access to all (135) puzzles in the puzzle index *
020313D8 01A02006
A4000130 FCFF0300
020313D8 01A02007
D2000000 00000000
* : Press R or L while entering the puzzle index.

(for this code, the puzzle you didn't unlock in-game will not be saved, ie. it'll not mess with your save. Stop using the code and everything will be back to 'normal').

Code:
Enable 'solve it!' for any puzzle in the puzzle index *
02031B08 03A00001
* : Use this code with the 'have access to all puzzle' code so you'll be able to actually play them.

And here is a way simpler 'Always gain max Picara' code :
Code:
Always gain max Picara *
0203B480 EA00007D
* : This code will make that bad answers don't count.

(edit : that code had a small typo, fixed it so now it's working properly).

As expected, the 'download puzzle' option just download some data that unlocks puzzle(s) already in the game (and doesn't actually download a new puzzle data)...

With this code, you'll be able to play ANY and ALL puzzles when going in the 'Weekly Puzzle Challenge' (there are actually 162 puzzles in the game).

Code:
Play any Puzzle in the Weekly Puzzle Challenge *
02019B00 E1A00000
023FE074 012FFF11
E0000000 000000A8
E92D003F E3A00301
E5900130 E3100C01
13100C02 159F0088
E59F2080 1A00001B
E3A04402 E59F1070
E1D130BA E3100010
1A000003 E2833001
E35300A3 03A03001
EA000005 E3100020
13A05000 1A000009
E2433001 E3530000
03A030A2 E5945000
E3550000 05813000
01C130BA 05423002
E1D130BA E3A05001
E5845000 E3A00000
E3530064 A3A00001
A2433064 E0800403
E1C200B0 E8BD003F
E12FFF1E 022AEA78
022ADF8A 00000802
023FE074 E3520003
* : Only works for the first puzzle of the list. Press R or L : the month/day of the puzzle date will change to the internal puzzle number. Then, while R or L is pressed, press Right or Left on the Dpad to cycle throught the puzzles.

The 'internal number' displayed might be different from the in-game number.
Also be 'careful', as finishing a puzzle that should only be 'in-game' avaible could mess up your game flow (as it'll be considered as finished in-game too), so I advise using this code on an old save.
If you use an M3/R4/whatever, don't forget to not use the 'real time on/off' feature, else this code might just crash your game.

In case you can't connect to wi-fi to "download" the first puzzle, here is a code to enable the it (so you can use the above code) :
Code:
Have first weekly puzzle enabled
522ADF84 00000000
022ADF84 00000001
022ADF88 11020877
D2000000 00000000

And in case you wanna revert back to a 'no weekly puzzle' downloaded state :
Code:
Clear weekly puzzle
022ADF84 00000000
022ADF88 00000000

Another one :

Code:
Any password will open the secret door
02037880 E5C01004
02037884 E1500000

The game must be finished to acces it (in the bonus).

In case anyone needs it, here is the list of the 27 puzzles not avaible during the normal course of the game (ie. avaible with Wi-Fi only). There are put in their internal number order (the one you'll see when using the "Play any Puzzle in the Weekly Puzzle Challenge" code) :
Code:
61 soccer ball, 75 the lazy student, 76 image equation ,89 how many nines ?, 97 cut the cake, 100 what's hidden, 104 jersey numbers, 110 find the volume, 114 a smaller E, 119 from five to four, 126 treasure chest, 127 the knight's escape, 128 layton's hatbox, 132 the vanishing tower, 138 chicks and hens, 139 bright idea, 146 the clock's chime, 147 lion vs cheetah, 148 shoe box scramble, 149 the lost hat, 150 morning greetings, 153 silence is golden, 154 aliens?, 156 a fearsome foe, 157 special order, 158 nose to nose, 162 egg-nigma.

So you can play them without fearing interfering with the normal course of the game (in case you haven't finished all of its 135 puzzles yet).

The code doesn't work for me, the rest work fine so any idea what's wrong? When I press "R or L" on the weekly puzzle selection screen nothing happens. Thanks for the great codes and hope you can help me out.

You have to hold a shoulder button while pressing left or right on the arrow pad.

For those of us having trouble with the all weekly puzzles code, perhaps someone could work out codes for each individual puzzle (I know there's already a code to enable the first puzzle)

Title: Ancient Code Sage
Been thinking about something...is there a way to delete any or all of the saves besides pressing all the bloody buttons at start up? There is no in game option to delete files. Kenobi....did you happen to experiment with this option? I was hoping I would not have to dust off my Took Kit and hack a code for this...but if I must....

Update- This wish is null and void. After talking to Kenobi and trying some codes he suggested, it would seem that some serious corruption results in game logic, aka you actually get discounted in puzzles you solved instead of getting to have a new null game. I would say leave this thing alone and don't allow it out of Pandora's box ever! Now I have to go back and resolve some puzzles....until next time... mac

I know this topic is quite old, but I am having trouble with the "Play any Puzzle in the Weekly Puzzle Challenge" code from Professor Layton & the Curious Village and was hoping someone would be able to help me with it.

The code provided on this topic consists of two codes. In the first one, the instructions are: "Only works for the first puzzle of the list. Press R or L : the month/day of the puzzle date will change to the internal puzzle number. Then, while R or L is pressed, press Right or Left on the Dpad to cycle throught the puzzles." The second code unlocks the first weekly puzzle so you can use the first one.

However, this is not working for me. The second code does indeed unlock the first puzzle, but the first code does nothing. I don't understand what the instructions on this code mean by "internal puzzle number" and I don't fully understand the instructions, which do not make much sense to me.

I have two questions regarding this. First, what am I doing wrong here? Second, is there some other code that will just simply unlock all the puzzles, like the second code that unlocks the first one, so I don't have to fiddle around with strange directions and procedures? That would be even better.

I am using DeSmuMe 0.9.8.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Yeah I'm having the same issue too. The first unlock one works fine, the giant one for everything doesn't appear to do, well, anything at all. I thought it was maybe happening where you couldn't directly see it so I tried anyway and no matter how many times I "scrolled" left/right I only ever got the first weekly puzzle rather than anything else.

And, of course, after trying that I went to check the Puzzle Index instead to see if I was meant to do it there and my game just crashed instead. Which is what happens every time I try and use it there instead.

The code works for me as it did then and for Kenobi too but it is awkward to work with at best. Later Layton games found a better code for unlocking weekly puzzles.

Could you please let us know exactly what you did in order to make these codes work? I cannot seem to get them working, and I don't seem to be the only one having trouble with them.

Not sure what your trouble is with this. First off...this game is so old you need to test it fairy by setting your DS date to whatever it was the first few weeks that game came out so you don't mess up by unlocking them all by the download process, which never downloaded anything in the first place, but simply did a date check to allow access to the puzzles. Second, I seem to recall using both these codes at the same time caused a lot of issues for people with black screens and all. Third, never, EVER, save using these codes. You will mess up the storyline big time and cause all sorts of errors in logic of the game. Fourth, are you holding L or R AND using the D pad? That is how you scroll internally as Kenobi put it back then. Finally, WHY? Why are you even worrying about this anymore as you can unlock everything in weekly simply by putting in today's date. Maybe you are just a purist eh?

Seriously, I have been a major proponent to warn people over on using advanced codes like this one, again because it can and does mess up saves and storyline. So why was the code done in the first place? Challenge...because it was there mentally. Hell, every Layton game after that had some of us hacking it to death, even after I retired elixirdream kept at it with others from CMP and gbatemp.

Well...don't know what else to tell you except it worked for me with the one code on. I only stopped in to see what was going on in this place and not to make it a habit of hanging out again. ciao

I appreciate your trying to help out with this. To answer your questions: Yes, I am holding down L or R when I am using the D pad. I am trying to use this code because I cannot "unlock" the weekly puzzles. I tried changing the date, but this still doesn't work. I've tried using only one code at a time, but they still don't work.

The best thing that could happen would be to find a code to just unlock the other puzzles like the first code did for the first puzzle. That one is so simple. Just activate it, and the first puzzle is playable right then and there. Aren't there other codes just like that one for the other puzzles? Wouldn't that be so much easier?

Since you are using an emulator, you can probably blame that as the culprit. The code made by Kenobi *requires* an Action Replay, because it hacks the AR code engine to make the code smaller. The code will have to be rewritten to work on emulators. (Or your emulator will have to be rewritten to use the AR code engine...)

Oh...right...he is using an emu. Well, the code works but it was awful in that it rewrote over the screen many times till you could not decipher the puzzle selected. Sorry about the confusion earlier.

It won't work on an emulator.

OK. I guess there is no way to play the weekly puzzles in an emulator, then? That is a real disappointment. Thanks for trying to help, though. It was worth a shot.

Title: All in a day's work.
Well, I'm just trying to say the code as provided here will not work in an emulator, but it could potentially be rewritten to work on AR hardware and emulators alike. It's possible now to do 95% of the work by disassembling the code to reverse engineer it, and rewriting it with standard 32-bit writes (this will double the number of lines to enter. The remaining 5% is locating a suitable hook for routing the program.

This does not help you immediately, but that's the general idea.
