Believe me I am quite aware of all the "LOL VISTAIDS" and "ENJOY YOUR DRM"

But frankly I don't really do much on my computer anymore and I just feel like upgrading for the sake of upgrading.

Anyone care to list the pros and cons of running vista? I understand very well the physical requirements and I have checked my system hardware to be compliant with Vista. Honestly I just want to install it to see what the difference is. This is Vista Ultimate by the way.

Try a dual boot between XP and Vista.
XP has less BS thatn Vista (considering the fact that XP still has BS)

I personally prefer Vista over XP. Namely because of the new looks and the ease of access to programs. Security has also been bumped up to the level of a Mac, which is very good. Searching for files is a God Send, now that the Start Menu has a search bar on it; making it a billion times easier than XP, and I find easier than a Mac. And, since GAMES are being released for PC's, and now Games for Windows (Not Games for Mac's), its a worthy upgrade.

Ive used Mac's too, and I hate them. Sure, they are quiet, simple, and the Dashboard is nice. However, it has some compatiblity issues with programs which run just fine on XP and Vista, such as Maya and 3ds Max. And again, no games. I realize the advantages of both systems and OS's, so dont call me a MS fanboy.

Vista is a good upgrade from XP, so install it. However, it was totally pointless to get ultimate unless if you need the business programs in it. Home Premium is the way to go.

I wish I knew that they improved the security last week. I just bought XP for my MacBook.

Yea vista > xp, you just need to find the leaked sp1 and get some added security for it.

I just liked a few of the features like Windows Aero and Readyboost. I was worried about not being able to play Halo 2, but there are cracks to play it on XP. I just watched the video on the Vista site and realized most of the new features are already in OS X. Thanks for the link to the transformation pack.

Windows will never be as secure as OS X, because the guys behind BSD know security. Meanwhile, the guys behind Windows only know greed. The only thing about Vista that even resembles OS X is the shit Misrosoft dubiously imitated.

I already have the developers beta on my mac. Its sooooo much better than vista and costs a reasonable $100, unlike vista which comes in 4 options and ranges from around $100 to $400, but still if you plan to upgrade and not buy a whole new computer I would still recommend vista home premium.

Sometimes the transformation packs can be a problem, so If you get a "Vista themes for XP" pack, then you can do that. It is like a mini-transformation pack. I would post a link, but it may be against Kodewerx' rules.

Thanks, I like how you can preview a window from the taskbar. The only think I couldn't figure out how to install was Windows Aero.

I have Windows Home Basic, and apparently it is the worse of all Vistas. It doesn't give me the neat graphics and such. I still have yet to find a Ultimate-look for the Vista OS.

Vista Home Basic is one of those options that does not include Aero (meaning it doesn't contain the ugly eye candy ... it's just Windows XP with some changes)

OS X Leopard is out next month. At $130 for a single user license, or $200 for a 5-user license, I'll be pitching in for the latter (hey, it's only $40). And I get everything that comes with Leopard; no picking and choosing, no weighing price vs features.

And for my non-Mac machines, I'll be wiping those clean and using the Ubuntu disc I downloaded for $0.

Ah, I love not being under Microsoft's thumb. Pity most of you still are.

That's one of the reasons why I switched to a Mac. Everything is simple.

I'll probably upgrade to Leopard next month, but I have a question about the licenses. How does Apple keep you from installing the OS on more than one computer if you get the single user license?

I heard there were chips in the computers?

Hey Smalls1652, I really suggest that you get Vista. I have Vista Home Premium and it's easy to use. I think its better the XP. I also suggest that you also Home Premium or Ultimate.
