Title: All in a day's work.
Sup!

I attended WWMDSF12 this weekend and got no sleep as I built a game from scratch over the course of 48 hours with a kick ass crack team. Our entry is called Tethyrd, it's a top-down shmuplike where the gimmick is that you must plug your gun into a power outlet to fire it. Crazy difficult, and ridiculously silly. This was a lot of fun to build, and we are considering continuing the project to flesh it out.

Play: http://www.kodewerx.org/tethyrd.swf

In the next day or two, I will write up my postmortem. Till then, enjoy!

How many rooms are there? I went out of bounds on the 2nd one and went to the door that way. lol

It's very hard to get unplugged though- is there some key I didn't mash that unplugs you?

Oh yes. Controls are listed on the WWMD archive page.

Controls: WASD to move, mouse cursor to aim, mouse button to shoot (when plugged in), E to unplug.

There are many bugs. (It's really hard to create a game in two days, as it is.) You can crash your Flash plugin by colliding with a door and an enemy at the same time! :D

We only had enough time to make 4 stages, and they were done at the end of the second day. We also didn't get our stage-completion mechanic implemented (which was going to be destroying the enemy spawners) so we skipped it and allowed the doors to instantly transition to the next stage.

Is there a key for plugging in? Because that's kind of hard to do too..

Nope. I want to do a few things about that: 1) Make the collision areas bigger. Probably going to work a bit like Apple's magnetic power cords: just get it close, and it will snap into place. 2) Directly interacting with the plug, even just to 'nudge' it. I don't want it to be too easy; Part of the fun is adding a slight challenge to key concepts like that. (SLIGHT)

Anyway, here's my postmortem: http://blog.kodewerx.org/?post=3
