The hard drive in a laptop I am working on is going bad, and I need to replace it with a new one. But I need an exact clone of the old hdd's contents, including the Windows boot sector and whatnot. Can anyone recommend any good disk cloning software? |

Correct answer: http://linux.die.net/man/1/dd I recommend throwing away Windows, so you won't even need a 1:1 copy of the disk. Save your important documents and photos to a flash drive and wipe that puppy out! |

My answer still stands. Get yourself a Linux live CD. If you're comfortable with Linux terminal, check out RIP Linux. If not, there's always Knoppix or the Ubuntu Live CD. Either way, dd is the tool for this job. And it has no GUI. |

No GUI is the best GUI. |

Didn't have time to mess with Linux again, so went ahead and used something called DriveImage XML. Worked pretty well, salvaged everything it could from the fucked up clusters and boots fine. Clone is pretty solid so far. |
