Post subject:  Where would be the best place to host a free site?

Alright, I've decided to get some experience in creating my own site.

I plan on putting only two things on the site:

1. Games
My plan was to copy those HTML codes from miniclip and other flash sites

2. Forum
Just going to make a few sections. Mainly for general discussion and games.

I have no idea where to begin, but I was wondering if there a place I could make a free custom domain (something.com or .org or .net)

Basiclly, anything that has doesn't have something.webs.com or something. The webs part, or something before the .com.

Anyone know where I can get something like this?

Thanks.

Okay, so what you're asking is how and where I'm guessing. First off there's a few places to host a free site, in my experience the downtime can be pretty bad on free hosts, but try out a few with a basic script to get a feel for what they'll offer long term. Here's a list: http://www.free-webhosts.com/webhosting-01.php . Next, .com, .org, and .net addresses are not free. Pay $10 a year or something, if you aren't that cheap just deal with a .co.cc or .co.nr domain (something along those lines).

I've offered free hosting to close friends, before. But then again, I'm paying for that hosting.

Aww, no free custom domain? I guess I can live with that.
For now.

Heh, you're so nice Para!

Alright, I've decided to go with Webs. It's pretty easy to use.

I made a tut on embedding flash games a few years back (now noticing my grammar back then was absolutely horrible, tried fixing it a little). Using http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/317172 as an example.

Link2999 wrote:
1) Find the page your flash is located on (click the play or start button to get there): http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/317172

2) Right click anywhere on the page (not on the flash) and press the view source button

3) Search the page's source for ".swf" you should find a link that looks like: http://uploads.ungrounded.net/317000/31 ... _64__F.swf

4) When you find that go here http://cit.ucsf.edu/embedmedia/step1.php and click "flash".

5) Enter the link where it says "server", dont put anything where it says "file path" , put in the width and height you want (I use 400x300), "compatibility" = flash player 6, "playback quality" = high, "Loop playback?" = no, "Alignment" = Left, Then press "Submit"

6) Start to copy where it says "<EMBED" and stop where it says </EMBED> you should have copied something like this:
Code:
<EMBED src="http://uploads.ungrounded.net/317000/317172_Super_Mario_Sunshine_64__F.swf/path/to/media.file" quality='high' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' width="400"
        height="300" loop="false" type='application/x-shockwave-flash'
        pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash'>
        </EMBED>

7) Post your code and you're ready to go xD

Oh and a freewebs website doesn't really count as a website since it's pretty much all premade (no ftp access).

Webs is so limited.

Go with:
http://oxyhost.com
or
http://123bemyhost.com

For a free (With Nameserver records) domain:
http://co.cc

Bing!

Thanks Link, it works. Dunno what I did wrong before, but yeah, your guide helped.

I only use Webs for their simplistic Site Builder. I'd love to switch, but me and HTML don't go well together. Even a little bit of assistance isn't good enough.
