I am thinking about switching over to liquid cooling system for my computer. I am running a dual Xeon LGA771 Processor each with Quad Cores and would like to know what is the best or what cooling system (preferably in a kit) do you use? If need be, I can buy the stuff individually to fit my need. I am also thinking about getting a VGA water block for the high GeForce or ATI card. Again any suggestion? Thanks in advance. |

Wow, a dual-cpu setup like that is pretty damn nice. I'm curious though as to why you're doing that... What you got going there sounds like something that belongs in a server, I mean, that's what Xeon's are for... I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just sayin, ya know, dayum. If you don't mind me asking, what are you using exactly? Like, an E5430 Harpertown, or did you seriously go out, like a, E5482? Anyway... I'd like to be able to help you, but I'm not sure I can.. I mean, I don't know really of any systems compatible with socket 771... I'm sure they're out there, but that's some, eh, 'different' stuff. Not gonna be impossible, but I'd be afraid of the prices. |

Well Xeon based computer seems to be able to use the most amount of RAM. I am shooting at 32GB of RAM, as I like to run the OSes in RAM, for lightning fast computing. Having 8 cores is pretty nice and no computing limitations for a long time. I do not like to feel limited, that is the main reason why I went this route and it also help that if you have a lot of money to burn and really like the 8 core setup. I was really fascinated by the eight core setup when I read about it in an article a while back. It was a top of the line when I got the processors and it is E5345 Clovertown. The Xeon based CPU seems to be more stable than the desktop CPU and to me it rivals that of a really pumped up desktop computer. Any games that I have thrown at the rig does not seems to slow it down. Another thing I use the rig for is running multiple OS in one sitting without affecting the host OS due to it having 8 cores. Why do I run multiple OS you may ask? Simple, compatibility reasons. You are right, Xeon's are for server computing, but if you got money to burn, give Xeon a try, and you may never look back. I wished I would have gone to Xeon based computer a long time ago. The case allowed me to setup the Xeon computer like a desktop. Thanks for the reply. |

I gotta say, that is a damn beautiful setup there. Personally, I run a single Quad-Core 6600 Kentsfield. LOVE the thing. I can't imagine how great it must be with an 8 core setup like that. |

I'm not sure if you still need an answer as this is pretty old, but a pretty good introduction to water cooling can be found at tom's hardware here. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/a-b ... ,1573.html There's also supposedly a new wave of coolers coming out that are going to use liquid metal. Supposedly they're better than liquid cooling and not nearly as complicated. They're still very new however. http://www.danamics.com/danamics-lm10.aspx Great system btw. I've got a Q6700, best part is I've had it about 9 months and paid $250 for it and a copy of windows vista (that I sold for 100). It also came with a motherboard, but it was really bad so it's sitting in a closet. |
