The easiest way to go about it, I think, is by browsing a site like http://hardocp.com/ which contains reviews of a lot of the new technologies and computer hardware coming out. After you get an idea of what you want (or need) from reviews, then start shopping around for the best deals. I would start with http://newegg.com/ and http://pricewatch.com/

Hey I'm working with Devlin on this project. Our overall goal is to create a simple video game system. We are planning on making something VERY simple and adding on to it or making it more complicated and eventually ending with a nice simple game system. For now our main plan is to use a GameBoy Advance motherboard and get it to run video (and eventually audio) on a TV and have electricity run threw it through the use of outlets in the wall as supposed to batteries (I already figured out that part) For now we are going to use blank flashcards (GBA cartridges) for testing games but we are planning on making the games on something els (such as disks). Or, you are talking about full scale hardware hacks. You might want to check out Ben Heckendorn's website: http://www.benheck.com/ and Brian Provinciano website: http://www.bripro.com/low/hardware/vidcap/index.php -- these will be great for ideas and even some useful information and tools.
