That's right! A printer that doesn't suck!! Is it possible to find one which fits these requirements?! - Laser or LED (NO GOD DAMN INKJET GARBAGE!) - Networked, Wired or Wireless (NO USB! NO LPT! I might even buy a little dedicated print server if I have to. But there's no way I will use anything other than network connectivity.) - Decent printer resolution (1,200 x 1,200 dpi would make me happy, but I could settle for 600 x 600 dpi) - Color would also be nice, but not required - Scanning would also be nice, but not required The biggest requirement of all: I want to plug the damn thing into my router and turn it on, and it just works. No printer drivers to fuck with. No vendor locking to Windows. As long as I can connect to the printer from any OS I damn well choose (which will be Mac OS X, Ubuntu, and probably Windows XP) then I will be happy. Some manufacturers I wish to avoid: HP/Compaq IBM Lexmark Price range: Below $500 Now you know what "a printer that doesn't suck" is. Think it's possible to find one? Point me to it! |

Sadly, if you want a Ubuntu or Mac OSX(or anything that runs off of unix) natively supported AND networked printer you have to get an HP. Personally, I would get an HP because of the low maintenance on their Laser printers (and the fact that it's not drum+cartridge). I would also recommend Canon but all their printers are like 600+ and 150+ per cartridge. |

Right now I'm using a Cannon Pixma 600, it cost me $150, prints, scans, and faxes. Right now Im using it on my Mac Leopard via AirPort. |
