Post subject:  AMD or Intel

I was wondering if you had any opinons as to which is better. I am comparing compturs and I have come upon an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core and an Intel Core 2 Duo. I am setting up computers on the website of the company and these are Dell. I don't plan to get a Dell, but I would if they are the best for the price. I had my last computer (this one...which I am selling to my parents) built custom for me. It was priced too high (in my opinon). I need something that is good for games and media with plenty of extra space. I would build the computer myself but I don't know how and have thought about it but am concerned about overclocking it too much (which would probablly be my only problem).

For a recap, my question is: What is better an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core or an Intel Core 2 Duo?

Intel Core 2 Duo, im a amd fan and i like the core 2 better. i wouldent go all out and get the core 2 extreme when for like 300$ you can just overclock and get the same speeds.

In case you couldn't tell, I'm an AMD fanboy. The core 2 duo is faster. However, what you really need to figure out is how much you want to spend. The cheapest way to go is to build it yourself. OEM computers are pretty well junk, as far as gaming is concerned. Also, you have to take into consideration the other parts of the machine. The processor isn't everything. Just as important is your motherboard and chipset, your memory, and your video card(s).

... And power supply. It's easy to overlook the PSU when you do a full system overhaul, and the troubles you will run into when doing so can be a bit of a set-back.

Personally, I'd wait a month or 2 for the quad core processors to come out.

I would go with ?man there and say AMD is better... I have seen too many friends with pentiums have issues.

The last Intel CPU I owned was a Celeron, which probably exacerbated my hate for Intel... Although I wouldn't mind having a Mac Book Pro with the new Intel chips. -_-

I guess I will go with an AMD. Any brands of computers to avoid?

All of them. Build it yourself.
