In case you're worried about your save corrupting (if you are using an R4), while in you menu of games, hit select to change your file type until you see saves. Scroll down to the save and hit A. It will ask if you want to back up. If you corrupt, go back and find the .bak file with the same name as you .sav file and hit a on it. It will overwrite your corrupt save.
