Well, (If there isnt another topic already made) There IS a way to get ringtones to get on your phone. It requires a program called BitPim.

So far, the only way to put them on is to use the phone's internal memory. (which makes the sd card worthless.... for now.) There MIGHT be a way to use the sd card files, but you would have to somehow get your phone to recognize (and Im talking about the LG Scoop AX260 from Alltel) the mms1 folder as the ringtones.

This belongs in ranting and ravings, but again, I would like to say, Thanks Lars, for fucking up our country with copyright bullshit.

Depends on the phone. I believe every phone has a system menu that the factory does checks on. Those can be useful for lots of things, IF you know how to use it. Like LG phones can access it by hitting Menu then 00000.

You do know you can get ringtones through Bluetooth... right?

Since the majority of the world has a Bluetooth capable phone, why not get an Adapter for $20 and transfer the files to the phone easily.

I have a Samsung M510 (total shit) with Virgin Mobile. I tricked them into giving me the MSL code, only to have it fucking change! How the hell?

It doesn't seem to be hackable via Bluetooth either. Waiting for the USB cable to arrive. Those sound effects must die.

Not with all phones. LG Scoops have a block against using music sent via Bluetooth (And ones on the SD card for that matter.), and therefore require a USB cable and a program called Bitpim. Motorola RAZR's however don't have this copyright shit.

Yeah, a lot of phones simply won't let you select anything other than the shitty built-in ones or ones you download through their system. Mine is odd; I can use a custom video (not an MP3, but I can rename an MP3 and it'll think it's a video and accept it) for calls, but not for text messages. WTF.

Still waiting for the cable to come in. I'll hack this fucker one way or another.

I often wish Alltel wasn't so gay. In order to get another USB cable (Mine seems to have broken.) I have to buy their media box which costs $40 for a fucking 2gb SD card, a pair of shitty headphones that you will never use (and probably just throw away.) and the cord (The only thing that you want in that package.).

BitPim might help though. It supports alot of phones.

Just buy the cable on Amazon. Mine was a buck. But naturally, BitPim not only doesn't support this model, but seems to have a bug preventing filesystem access even though I can see a directory listing in the transfer log. FFS.

People, do not ever buy the M510. In fact you'd probably be good just avoiding Samsung entirely.
