Nobody fucking knows.
Nobody but Nintendo CAN know.
It hasn't been released.
I don't know how you expect anybody to know.
We don't know.
There's no way we could.
Or anyone could.
Except for Nintendo themselves.
They know.
But they won't tell anyone.

Flashcart shells don't have the thin plastic lines down the back of the card. Nintendo should be able to block flashcarts through that way for a while.

Or, you know, Nintendo could be run by people with brains and use some other REALISTIC method. (RSA Whitelist, anyone?)

I'm sure they'll make a halfassed attempt at security that will have some massive flaw.

Depends really on two things.
1) How nintendo did it.
2) The effort the community is actually going to put into doing this shit.

Best case scenario: "Hell yeah everyone! Let's all get together and put homebrew on this thing! Woo, friends forever! Oh wow, Nintendo left us instructions on how to bypass all the security measures right on the inside of the first page of the instruction manual! Rainbows and candy for everyone!"

Worst case scenario: "Fuck this shit, people can just get a fucking DS lite, ungratefully faggots, fuck you all. Besides, even if we wanted to bother trying, Nintendo filled the DSi with anthrax, and the solder is made to fucking explode on contact with high heat. Even if you survived opening the thing, you're still fuxxored. So fuck you all, I'm gonna go through a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup with a razor blade in it at Obama's head, NADER FUCK YEAH, INTERNET LOLZ *kills self*"

So who knows.
We might have homebrew tomorrow.
We might have it be the time the Nintendo B2lapBox comes out.

Nintendo added a whitelist to the DSi for all the previously released games so only they will work on the DSi unless they have been signed by Nintendo. So now if you want to run on the DSi, you either have to be on the white list or have the digital signature only Nintendo can give out. So as it stands, its near impossible if not impossible to get a flashcard to work on the DSi until the time the digital sigantures have been cracked which may not happen at all. The normal DS and DS Lite use a similar method using RSA signatures for download play that has yet to be cracked even after many attempts to do so.

Now there are firmware hacks, problem here is, the DSi have pgradeable firmware, meaning Nintendo can and will release DSi firmware updates which will be required to use their services like DS Ware, their DS channels, etc as well as going the Wii approach and bundling the firmware with new games. So even if you manage to make a firmware hack, when Nintendo releases a firmware update, it will all be for moot.

Remember folks, Nintendo has been working on the DSi since 2006 so they have had a couple years to work on securing their system from the experience they gain with the DS and the Wii being hacked. Also they have the system locked down so much that Game developers are complaining that games they are developing that work fine on the DS don't work on the DSi, meaning that some original DS games may not run on the DSi at all.

So all in all, I wouldn't hold your breath when it comes to hacking the DSi. It may happen or it may not, but it won't happen anytime soon by the looks of it. Nintendo seems to have done their homework for once. So if you do want to pirate the games or run homebrew, just get a DS Lite.

So Narin, are you saying it's been confirmed that they're using a Whitelist?
Because, yeah, I've heard of that as a possibility, but honestly, I haven't heard of anyone actually, well, finding any evidence of this.
The DSi has only been unboxed by a handful of people by now.
I doubt we've actually learned anything definitive.
I expect the scene to, in time, come up with a definitive answer as to what Nintendo did or is doing.
But even if we do figure it out, regardless of what measures they took, it's always going to be possible to break the system, to get past these measures.
Again, it really depends on just how many people are even going to bother trying. The enthusiasm of the scene.

I don't think we should really make any predictions until we know what Nintendo did to prevent piracy on this thing.

Well, its not 100% proven it uses a whitelist but word from several DS game developers are saying that new games in the works will not work on the DSi unless signed which means that the DSi have some form of protection to block unauthorized games and that something is in place to allow the old DS games to work.

Also it has been proven that DSWare and DSi games are digitally signed to prevent tampering with and also games are needed to be digitally signed to even play on the DSi which only Nintendo can do. Which could also mean that the firmware and the firmware updates are possibly signed as well meaning that they can't be edited or a custom firmware can be ran on the DSi unless the digital signature is cracked.

It'd really be no surprise if it is a Whitelist. It may not be, but I have to agree with you in saying that's what it looks like at this point.

To be able to crack this is certainly possible, albeit difficult.

Back when we were trying to crack the DS game encryption, people said it was an absolute fucking waste of time.
People spat out retarded numbers "HurF IT'LL taKe 50 yeaRS to carcck DUMbffrikz!".
And of course, we cracked it in no time at all. Yay distributed computing.
All we need is time and someone who can come up with a method to do this.

Whitelist? So what? There are a fuckton of DS games to find save exploits in. Running code in DS mode will be cake if anyone bothers to try. Full DSi mode should be interesting, since Nintendo has probably learned from their mistakes on the Wii (clearing memory, not using strcmp in place of memcmp :hurr: ) and DS (entrypoints inside the signed area this time), but I'm sure they'll make another stupid fuckup.

I thought about the save exploit as well. Didn't Microsoft and Sony try that on the XBOX and PS2?

Didn't they fuck it up completely leaving soft modification open to everyone?

I can see the DSi being the exact same situation. Datel and MadKatz have already made save transferrers for us, so we won't need a flash cart to get that done (in case you were about to say that we need flash carts to back up and restore saved games).

Not to mention the possibilities an SD slot gives us.

ya know what would suck, if nintendo decided to make a game system that was internal based (no external source except for the charger, mic, and headphones.) and we had to download all of our games from nintendo themselves. And even worse, if they set you with only one game and you had to beat it to win others and I'm going to shut up in case there is a Nintendo sales rep rummaging around through here.

So whats so different about those that they work? Besides the fact that I'm sure very few people use them...

I think the DSTTi uses a previously released official game that is on the white list to get a normal boot. And I still dont understand how the Acekard 2i works.

Heres the page that talks about the DSTTi's method of booting. http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic= ... STTi&st=45
