I thought running unsigned code on the Wii was impossible?

I don't think this is the first time online stores have offered Datel products long before they actually existed. NDS AR anyone?

lemmayoshi, the Dreamcast was unhackable too.

Buy it, take pictures of it, and show me a video of it in action, or it didn't happen.

Also, I bet whatever method Datel is using to run unsigned code will be patched by a system update, so it's pretty much worthless.

Dreamcast was the most hacked console in the last decade.

AR Wii looks like another save-hacking solution. For evidence I submit:

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

Discuss.

What makes you think that the Wii games are even signed as it is? DS games (with the exception of wireless downloads) aren't signed, just part of the binary is encrypted. We know that entire Wii discs are encrypted, but I haven't seen any evidence that shows the actual executable on them is signed.

Remember, the GC Action Replay came out long before anyone else had produced tools to run code on the GCN. If encryption is their only obstacle right now, then I see no reason why this wouldn't be feasible.

Either way, we still don't have any proof that this is an actual product. Given what the OP has posted so far, it sounds like a sham.

I've been told by FNG that power saves would be released "soon" and that he couldnt say anything about the wii ar except that it was being looked into. But that was back in April. Also, if the wii ar was released in Europe, it would be posted on their site, which it isn't

Probably this: http://cryptosystem.org/video/tmbinc-co ... ing2k6.ogm

Actually, we have seen evidence: http://cryptosystem.org/video/tmbinc-co ... ing2k6.ogm

Too bad encryption is not the only obstacle as explained here: http://cryptosystem.org/video/tmbinc-co ... ing2k6.ogm

Exactly. At least there's one point in your post that is based in reality.

What evidence? You linked me to the same video 3 times, and it doesn't prove a thing.
The only place in the video where he even talks about the obstacles to running code is the "Why no Wii homebrew?" slide. The third bullet, he says "On the Wii, disc content is encrypted and signed."
That's the only place in the entire video where he mentions it.

How is that evidence? He reads pretty much the same thing from his PowerPoint slide and doesn't back it up with any information. You can easily see the data is encrypted by dumping a disc and looking at it. But I have yet to see evidence from anyone that actually proves that something is signed.

Edit: In fact, there seems to be some weak evidence to the contrary. Why is it possible to brick a Wii by installing a system update from a poorly burned disc? Wouldn't Nintendo want to verify the signature of an update before they even try to apply it to the system? I suppose this differs from a signature of an actual executable, which is why I've already admitted it's pretty weak.

I don't know if he still works there, but I sent off an e-mail to Fabrice at Datel UK to see if he can confirm the development of a Wii AR.
From past experience, he doesn't seem to like providing information on stuff, but I just asked for confirmation or denial. I'll post here if I get a reply.

None of the Datel employees will ever be able to part with specific details, as a part of the NDA they had to sign for employment. But a simple confirmation or denial is about as unspecific as it can get.

Post subject:  Re: ar wii is out in england

I've received a reply.

He thinks that the Wii Powersaves product that came out last week is causing the confusion. However, the Wii Action Replay is still "on track" and they are using their trainer hardware already to make those PowerSaves. So in conclusion, the Wii Action Replay is NOT out now. He also says it's not due soon, and the date on EBgames is wrong.

Interesting news, nonetheless. I'm glad they're actually going to try and pull it off.
