Post subject:  Ripping Music from a DS game

I need to know how to rip some music from a DS game, or ROM. What is the best program to do so with? no$gba plays the ROM at an astounding 10-15 fps aprox. so I dont kno if its going to be good for ripping. I dont even know if I can :?

Reason why I need the track`s is that I`m a staff at landofthelegend.net and we want to get Phantom Hourglass music. The Hylia already has 75 tracks ripped from the game. I would steal them from there, but, ya know, its better if we got our own. TSA will be all over our asses if we rip them from there. Anyways, I could use some help.

(Note, we are doing an overhaul of lotl.net, just if you were wondering.)

Thanks.

A direct rip? It's synthesized you know.

You'll need to extract the SSEQ audio as midi and the instrument sets as soundfonts, and use a Midi player that supports soundfonts to record the music as recorded audio. The shareware program "Audio compositor" is pretty good for this.

Two options for extraction:
VGMtrans: http://www.vgmtrans.com/
Erm... There was another tool that did the same thing, but I can't find it now.

Either way, with Zelda you'll have a BUNCH of sound banks and a BUNCH (over 200) of midi tracks. You'll need to figure out which soundbanks are for which tracks yourself, which is a big hassle. (Well, actually, I just noticed the "collections" box at the bottom of the window. It lists all of the songs in the ROM. If you click on one, it tells you which midi and which soundbank the midi uses. You can also preview/play them here) If done correctly, the end result sounds 100% perfect. Good luck.

Hmm link to the other one when you have the time.
VGM is misbehaving. (crashes often)

The "other one" doesn't support DLS extraction, so it's useless for an authentic reproduction. It only extracts MIDI data.

VGMtrans is very alpha, and you're stuck with it. The newest build on the site seems much more stable than the old one. It only crashed on me twice. It's stable enough to extract all of the music from an entire game, but not stable enough to play all of it.

What am I doing wrong with it? Every time I extract the folder and run the program it says, this application has been configured incorrectly, reinstalling the application may help. And I made sure that the program and that other Microsoft folder were in the same directory.

It did indeed work - thanks

EDIT - not only does it work, but I might also be lucky as well, seeing how it can play every music file it ripped from my MKDS rom without crashing.

The easiest way is to use a recorder

if VGMTrans doesn't work, try VGMToolbox
