I’m going to teach you how to reach and navigate the Directory of a website easily. Many sites leave this section open on purpose. Many sites do not. And some sites have valuable info just hanging around in there. Navigating the Directory can be a great way to bypass popups. But it can also be used to bypass security and pose a big threat. I’m not even going to flatter you with “I want you to use what I say for the purposes of good!” cause I know this is a crock of crap. I will say however: if you get caught, you’re fucked. Lets begin. I’ll be using this site as an example of how to access the Directory. http://www.zeldaguide.com/ alright, you see that banner at the top. The one that says Zelda Guide. Yeah, right click on that one and select properties. Now highlight the address of the image and copy it. The address should be: http://www.zeldaguide.com/_borders/images/ZeldaGuide-Header_01.gif Now paste the address into your address bar. Delete everything from the end to the last "/" So now it looks like http://www.zeldaguide.com/_borders/images/ Press enter and you’ve just gained access. The files in the folder are for viewing, and the file marked parent directory will link you back a folder: http://www.zeldaguide.com/_borders/ You can’t write over files, just download. But people hide all kinds of music, games, passwords, etc. your not supposed to be into. Technically this method works on links too. If the back door just happens to be locked up, you will receive and Error 404 or access denied. but dont ask me how to get around that. Note: I've probably got some terms wrong. But the basic Idea is there. This the first time I've ever tutorialized something. Thank you parasyte for clearing something up. |

Those are directory listings via HTTP, which can be enabled and disabled on a site-by-site basis. If you were to access the FTP contents on the server, you would be visiting ftp://www.zeldaguide.com/ instead. |

Of course the above only works if the directory doesn't have an index page in it. Directory viewing can also be disabled, as Para said. |

This stuff works great and all, but it doesn't really work on other websites, at least for me. I've tried it on some other websites, and none of them have worked. Am I supposed to find the address of any image on the page? Or just the Banner? And what should I look for to access the directory? |
