Title: Ancient Code Sage
It seems I have found for the first time two games that cannot be backed up with the AR GBA/DS Max....namely the new Pokemon Pearl and Diamond DS games. It appears that the Max does not see the cart in the DS slot of the MAX as it should to do the backup. This is rather unforntunate since without backup protection there is no way to try some of these outstanding codes you guys are doing without risking our save states. If anyone else happens to have a MAX please reply if you find the same result or not. :(

Funny, saving is broken in no$gba too.

I guess it could be a hardware thing.

Anyone try rein with it yet? I don't have the original cart, and can not do so yet.

Yeah, I wasn't confident enough to say it but that's what I thought too... Hey, gamesaves are getting as big as some GBA games!

The SDK has always had provisions to support 4m and 8m flash, but no games have ever used them. It also has some FRAM (flash RAM) support. I think those were 64k and 256k or something.

Out of plain curiosity, do you have the SDK or the documentation within it?

No real reason for asking, I have just heard that high up members in the homebrew and dev scenes sometimes have them.

Nah, the backup tools just need to be programmed to handle 4 Mbit saves.

Couldn't you us ethe R4 and make a bakup file for the save?
That way in case the file of your sav gets corrupted you can just use the bakup file to restore ito it's previous state.
That's what do whenever my save for CR:A gets corrupted.

Animal Crossing and Pokemon also use different save sizes which the DUO/MAX may have not supported.

Hmmm should I check on the sav size file they used?
Interesting thing
Japanese Pearl/diamond are roughly 128 mb
The english version of diamond and pearl is roughly half of that.

Well, one option I thought about would be to do a ram dump in the emulator, and then load the ram into my diamond game using the trainer toolkit. I've been playing the game on my DS-X card so I want to load that save onto my official card. Only thing is I can't load my save file with NO$GBA to try it. From what you guys have said it looks like You cant load a save in the emulators yet.

Yeah but wouldn't it be better with the R4 since you can make bakups of your saves before hand?
That way if the code screws everything up you turn the bakup into a .sav file before your game got screwed up.

Noone listens to me T_T

*Laughs* Only a Pokemon game would need 4MB of memory space. If you think about it... Pokemon does need to save a lot of information. I would think the actual game takes more than 128MB. Its really nice to see that not all game creators are eating resources like candy, just because they can. Pokemon Pearl/Diamond are very extensive games. I would think that there would be much more space needed than 128MB. The database alone could probably be most of that... At least, I'd figure.

Remember it's a 4 megabit save, so it's only taking up half a megabyte. Still a lot...

Yeah but my point was that it was the japanese game that was 128 Mb of game.
Why is the english version half that?
Not counting the save but the actual game itself I mean.

It is not working for me. I have the newest version of the firmware on the GBA/DS Max and I have just tried the backup by using the PC. It continues to read it sees no DS game in the DS slot of the MAX. I went back and tried several other DS games with this process and it works just fine. Bat420man, since you seem to have success we need to get more info from you. Did you back it up with the GBA/DS Max alone? Did you use the PC uts and the cable? Please get back to me on this.

Pokemon saves can also be backed up using Eepinator.

By the way, I've modified the PokeSav software so that it can generate
AR code for Pokemon D/P USA.
