You need to find an activator (usually close by if it exists) where a flag (01) goes up every time the button is pressed but is only up right when it's pressed. See, the normal activators are active as long as you're holding the button and the AR code checks every loop of the game's program- multiple times/sec. So even just a quick jab at the button may keep it active for many program loops.
From my GCN hacking experience, I've usualy found these kinds of activators near- but lower- in memory than the normal activators.
