Okay, people wanted it, people get it.

Ocarina is a very simple Wii application for your homebrew channel. What it does? Start a game.. but there's a twist of course.

Ocarina checks the GAME ID.. like RZDP01 for Zelda Twilight Princess (PAL). Then it checks the inserted SD card whether it can find a cheat code file for that game: in this case it would have to be name [sd]:\codes\rzdp01.gct .

To create GCT files.. a PC application is bundled in the package. This application is coming with 2 example files. rsbe.txt and rsbp.txt (Smash Brothers NTSC-U and PAL respectively). Using the File menu you can open, them and select the cheats you want.
Note that unlike an Action Replay you can modify codes with XXXXXXXX inside them.. it will always ask you to store modifications to its application memory I added this question so that people do not cry if a code is messed up - the actual cheat code file will not be modified until you save it in the app.

Once you're done selecting codes: click on "Export to GCT"... and the rest should be pretty straight forward! Insert your SD card.

http://wiird.l0nk.org/ocarina.zip

The package is seperated in a PC folder (PC client) and HBC (Homebrew channel)... put the stuff in its folders.. and they're happy!

Some release notes:
-Due to some bugs, games cannot access SD cards anymore when they are booted via Ocarina.. Brawlers who do stage builder stuff or screenshots.. please store them into your Wii memory and copy them over!

GET IT!

Just downloaded it, I'm gonna try it out.

Edit:
Ok, I tested it on Brawl and got all stickers (Too lazy to actually get tha sticker mehself but oh well.) I had everything else, challenges, trophies, music, etc. completed already, but to let all those that want to know if it works, it does.

If anyone saw some of my related posts, I was working on an application called "Chiiter" that essentially does the same thing this does.

I was so close to getting to the juicy part, but even with code that Sven Peter himself claimed "looked good" I still couldn't get past the green screen that pops up when you jump to the entry point of a Wii's DOL.

I'm glad SOMEONE other than Nuke figured it out and brought us this application. I slaughtered the hardest mode in Brawl recently and had hella fun doing it. Way to go, guys.

Now, about that...green screen issue...care to tell me how you got past it? D:

Edit: What's up with the name "Ocarina?" I think Chiiter is pretty clever, but also pretty obvious. I'm curious why they didn't steal the name from me, since they probably didn't even know I was working on something called Chiiter.

Fits perfect with the Wii theme. O_o

I agree Chiiter sounds better than Ocarina.

- What is a "hanlder"

- We REALLY need this to evolve into what Chiiter was supposed to be (a freeware code making tool). I'd love to help, dammit. Where are those two

The point of the GCN to WiiRD converter was simple.
You see, WiiRD codes were originally meant for the USBGecko, which can be used with either the Wii OR the Gamecube.
The converter was so people could use the Gamecube Action Replay codes with the WiiRD code handler.

Ocarina is strictly a Wii app, and it's extremely unlikely that it will be able to boot Gamecube games in the future.

In fact, it's damn near been proven that it wouldn't even be possible.
Ocarina boots into Wii mode.
From the moment you start the Homebrew Channel, the Wii has kicked into Wii Mode.

Currently, there is no method, and in fact, it's not even believed there is a way, to kick the Wii from Wii Mode to Gamecube mode.
This would be required for Ocarina to boot Gamecube games.

The ONLY way Gamecube support for Ocarina could exist, at this point, would be either a direct Gamecube port, which means you'd need a Drivechip (STFU, THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A WII MODCHIP YET) installed to run it, OR, a Custom IOS revision (much like Waninkoko's) with a customized version of Ocarina INTEGRATED INTO IT, so that it could start in Neutral mode, much like the Wii Menu, and be able to boot into Gamecube mode.

Put simply, in the future, Ocarina WON'T handle Gamecube games.
Get a USB Gecko or an Action Replay if you wanna cheat at Gamecube games.

what if we load a .dol from the Twilight Hack, doesnt that load into gamecube mode, because alot of gamecube homebrew is launched like that, in fact the first version of MPlayer front end was a gamecube homebrew app.

.dol is NOT strictly Gamecube.
Lots of Wii apps are distributed as .dol files.
Trying to load a Gamecube .dol file in Wii Mode simply won't work.
Crash.

And yes, the first version of the Mplayer frontend on the Wii WAS just the gamecube version.
You had to run it in Gamecube mode.
With a Drivechip.
Gamecube mode from the start.
Never touches Wii Mode.

Thankfully, you're wrong.
Progress has been made and work is underway to make Gecko OS be able to boot GCN games via the HBC (and thus also use WiiRD). I wouldn't expect it to be finished any time soon, half a year tops though. Once this is done for Gecko OS, it's only a matter of time for Ocarina to be able to do it aswell.

We can only hope, but I really don't expect that.

In fact, I've seen no mention of this whatsoever.

Cite your source, if you don't mind, I'd like to read about this.

Well my first source went down when USB Gecko forums went offline (the board accidentally got deleted, or it killed itself, it's not clear).
My second source is logged in my chats with Nuke. (some were via PM sessions on the USB Gecko boards, again before it went down).
I'll have to search through the logs I have but I'll try and find them now.

Awesome.

The USBGecko is a wonderful tool that's helped advance the Wii Homebrew Community quite a bit due to it's features.
If there IS a way to Kick the Wii from Wii Mode to GC while still preserving memory, I'm sure the USBGecko would help to find it.

Perhaps we will find a way to do just that.

Let's hope.

Hey wait if the Wii has two USB ports(i know they use the 1.3 speed) in the future will we be able to stream information through those the same way we do with the Gecko? sounds stupid i know but is it possible?

Possible?
Sure, why the fuck not.

But there'd be little use for it.
It'd be difficult.

It'll be a LONG time before we have the ability to use them in "that way".

We "could" now, but it'd be difficult, bloated, and wouldn't work well.

Just give it time.

Make something new from scratch.
Something cheaper and easier to use than the Gecko.
Something that uses all new methods the Gecko hasn't even come close to touching.
Hell, I could if I felt the need.

Then do it.

Present a design document.

After all, you could start from scratch, and spend barely $30 or so, and in the end have a marketable product.
Hell, you could modify it a bit and sell it as a Cheating device for the Wii.
(Modify, as in, remove debugging, ripping, etc features)

It should only take a week or so for a beta.

Hell, partner with Taco Bell.
Coupon for a free taco in every box.
KhaosWii, the ultimate Wii cheating solution.
With FREE MOTHERFUCKING TACOS

You keep saying "pour".
Why?

v. poured, pour·ing, pours
v.tr.
1. To make (a liquid or granular solid) stream or flow, as from a container.
2. To send forth, produce, express, or utter copiously, as if in a stream or flood: poured money into the project; poured out my inner thoughts.
v.intr.
1. To stream or flow continuously or profusely.
2. To rain hard or heavily.
3. To pass or proceed in large numbers or quantity: Students poured into the auditorium.
4. To serve a beverage, such as tea or coffee, to a gathering: We need someone to pour.
n.
A pouring or flowing forth, especially a downpour of rain.

Yeah. KhaosKnight1. The most genious of them all. His IQ is higher than the average bear and is the greatest of all.

He is going to take over the world. Obviously "your" kidding, because from reading this thread, you don't know much about anything development-wise for the Wii.

But in all seriousness, I have one question for you; were are your tacos?

It might be because "your" "pour," but I'm not really sure. I'm also "pour," but I don't get free tacos.

Why are you expecting free tacos?

How can you honestly FORGET to spell poor? That is despicable.
/offtopic

Now to the thread...

It would be great if someone could help Zeld along with the problem he is having, as it would help him complete an app that would help even more people than this.

There was more but I couldn't find it. (I honestly don't believe he would mind me posting this at all.)
If you do Nuke, just yell at me. sorry!

James0x57: The biggest feature I'd like for USB Gecko is the GCN game support from the HBC Gecko OS.
Nuke: its possible but have to hack mios
Nuke: i can do this though
James0x57: ^__^
Nuke: and i messed about with it, and it seems safe
Nuke: i even deleted mios off my wii and still worked
James0x57: Yeah, you told me that in a PM ^____^
Nuke: well didnt boot gc games of course :lmao:
Nuke: i can redirect the output code on an sd adapter
Nuke: cant use the front sd slot as its not there in GC mode
Nuke: there like 5 usd on ebay now anyway

For now i just stick to Homebrewing, and all this stuff i know i just pick up from the boards i hang around on. Sorry if my spelling is to suit your likings, but for now i dont care.
