That sucks man.. Are you on standby to be forced to evacuate or are you far enough away?

I was on standby for evacuation on Saturday, during the Hardy Fire. The Schultz Fire on Sunday had evacuated my best friends whole neighborhood. They were allowed back in today.

It's important to note that the Schultz Fire is still burning out of control. It's heading up the mountain, and there is still a great deal of smoke pouring out of it. Not near as bad as it was on Sunday, but at least it's moving away from where people live.

I've never before seen flames that are 4 and 5 times higher than the trees they are burning. And after I got the message saying they were being evacuated, I set out driving toward it. It was awesome, scary, and sad. All at the same time.

Intense stuff man.

Does breathing the air near your place bother you at all or is the smoke not that close?

The smoke is definitely close, but the main fire is behind a mountain. I live pretty much at the base of Mt. Elden, and the fire is on the north side of it. Plus, the wind continuously blows to the north-east. Overall, the fire is 5-6 miles from my apartment.

Good news, today was extremely overcast. (Been sunny all month.) It's difficult to tell if there is any smoke at all. The cooler temperatures have likely helped a lot with the efforts to get it under control.

Yesterday's awesome uber smoke was from a prescribed burnout they were doing. Which, I guess, is a technique that involves a controlled burn near the fire that 1) clears out the dead crap that the wildfire likes to consume and 2) starve the wildfire by stealing its supply of oxygen. Mostly #1...
