Title: The Mad Hacker
Hey guys, here's the setup:

Windows XP desktop with 2 Ethernet ports. One is plugged into the wall with a cat 5 ethernet cable (for network/internet access). The other is either plugged into my Xbox 360 with a crossover cable xor it's plugged into my Windows Vista laptop with the same crossover cable.

The internet is shared and the windows firewall is not active on the crossover cable's ethernet port.

When connected to my laptop:
Internet works.
Can send post data. (not file streams)
Can connect via FTP and download files.
Cannot upload files- at all.
Cannot transfer files between the computers (stops responding).
MSN Messenger cannot sign in.
IRC works.

When connected to my 360:
Media streaming works. (pictures, music, videos all work great)
All network tests pass, then it fails on "Xbox Live" OR it will prompt to download an update.
-When I try to download the update it fails instantly and says "Download failed."

Any ideas, guys? I'm garbage with networking so if you need more info, just let me know what to post here. The help is much appreciated. Thank you :)

Okay, figured it ^ out AND solved that stupid MSNM error I've been having..

It was
network properties > Advanced > Firewall Settings > Advanced >
Then select both The internet's port and the port the internet gets shared to, one at a time, under network connection settings
> Settings > ICMP > Check all
(you could probably fix it with checking fewer than all of them, but it's in there somewhere)

Hopefully that can help someone else sometime. At least that stupid MSNM error that causes you to not be able to log in- EVER- can be fixed now. Microshit doesn't have a solution for the problem on their site (and it is stated that there is no known solution when you search for the error code) and it's apparently been going on since MSNM started.. Cool, I guess. heh

Apparently, it happened to Wii users. They tweaked with the router settings and got it to work.
