Is there a place where it tells you?

Oh, and what website do I go to, to get the files?

Thanks.

Are you just wondering how to use torrents?

Do you understand at all what the fuck a torrent is?

Title: I have succeeded in making myself awesome.
Strictly educationally speaking, a .torrent is a file with a specific ID, moving across the network with many different peoples computers, this is called seeding. When you download a file, you get a tracker according to the site your using, the tracker finds this ID and all the seeders, and downloads bits and parts of the file from each seeder until you get the whole file. The .torrent file is just the ID to the file. Once you have the file, you may start seeding, or do whatever the hell you want. There are sites such as The Pirate Bay (best site out there, and safest) that have such trackers, the site does not contain the files itself, it contains the .torrent file to be used. Now, I am not bitTorrent so this may not be the best definition, don't yell at me if I've something wrong, but this is an easy way to understand it.

Um...
Does that mean people have access to my files in like, my documents or something? Or do you upload your files to the net?

Thanks for the link by the way.

Not even close.

Let me try and keep this simple.

...

Sort of....

A .torrent file is what you'll be downloading AT FIRST.
uTorrent will load this, and start the "actual" download.
More on that later.

The .torrent file contains a bunch of info uTorrent needs to connect to Other People who are downloading, or have already downloaded, that torrent.
When a torrent is first made, obviously, one person already has everything.
Someone downloads the .torrent file, and uTorrent uses the info in the .torrent file to connect to the person who made it, and download the actual content, whatever it may be.
Now there's two people with it.
When someone else downloads the .torrent file and uses it, he'll start downloading from those two people.

There's a LOT more going on here, and a lot of stuff I'm leaving out, but you don't need to know it, just pay attention to what I do say.

See, those people that have the "content" (what you're downloading) already, that is, they've downloaded it, act as "seeders".
"Seeders" provide a source for others to download from.
You should always "seed" files for awhile. I could talk about how long and why, but I'm not in the mood.
Just keeping it simple here.
When you start a download with uTorrent, you'll see it in a list with a blue arrow next to it. You're downloading.
When you've finished downloading, the arrow turns green. Now you're seeding! Leave it. Leave it like that. After 3 days (again, just keeping it simple here), you can right click it (in the list) and delete it.

Always seed. Or else you're a total fucking douche. Seriously.

Now, back to the "content".
Yes, it's hosted on other people's computers. Once you've downloaded it, people will download it from yours too.
Simple as that.
This is why .torrent files are so tiny. They're just the "info" to get the content, not the content itself.

Quote:
"WHAR DO I GET TORRENTS THEN?!!?"

That's a direct quote, formatting and all, from 99% of GSC members who can use torrents.
First day. Second. Till the day they die. They repeat that question.

Here's my little hint to you.

Ask it once.

Never again.

Don't complain.

Bitch.

http://www.mininova.org/

There. Get torrents there.
Open them in uTorrent, tell it where to save the shit.

This all might be kind of confusing and overwhelming.
Just try it.
Do it.
Get it out of the way.
Once you can use torrents, you'll be glad you learned.
It's really very simple.
Just do it.

To all of you who noticed my many mistakes, whether it be factual, noting specifics, or "only linking Mininova" thing, listen closely.
I know. I'm not a retard. I could talk about torrents for hours, and days if you wanna include sites and trackers. But I'm trying to explain this in a way that can allow damn near anyone who's not retarded to pick up and use torrents. Just ignore the errors. Anyone that needs this info, doesn't need the specifics and crap. Last thing we need is to light a canvas on fire.

Is that directed towards me?

Oh and wherever you download torrents from Zack, when you first start out, only download files that have comments on them saying they are alright and be smart, Movie files are not 200mb or anything under 600. Once you go along you'll learn to notice the signs of virus' and what not.

OK. Thanks. Yeah I kinda saw that, and the comments are pretty useful too. But hey. Say I want to post a file. How do I turn it into a .torrent file?

Making a torrent?

Easy, sort of, ish, luckily.

In fact, here's something really obvious that should help a lot.
