Ok, my grandparents got a new computer and they threw the old one at me.
Now, I want to install this hard drive into my computer, only problem, it's and IDE hard drive.
The only way I can use it is when I unplugged the CD/DVD drives ribbon cord and plugged it into that area.

Is there any way to install it without removing the CD/DVD drives ribbon?

This is what the hard drive looks like:

This is the original drive:

You could get an IDE cable that has room for 2 devices.
Do you have enough internal power cables?

Plenty of power cables, I might be able to get one from my friend. He is a computer specialist and has a lot of cables laying around at his shop.

I'll check with him, if he doesn't I'll order one off the internet.

Edit: Would the IDE cables be able to work with SATA drives?

I haven't had any experience with SATA drives, but I don't think they are compatible. That is, of course, unless SATA drives have a super-secret backwards compat features in them.

Nope, if its a new computer, I don't think theres anyway. I would just back up my data and put it on the new hard drive.
