there seems to be a pretty common ds model the file extension is nsbmd (BMD0) for the actual models nsbtx (TEX0). They are used in mario kart, animal crossing and a lot of other games so that is why i had a closer look.

the mesh data is actually quite simple because it's just ds display list format (see gbatek->ds3d io map) and stored after the textureX names with that rendering a wireframe mesh is easy. However the complicated part seems to be loading the proper textures from the texture file and also the file seems to "import" other model files? i am not really sure about that the data should be in the parts before that but i cant figure it out :( does anyone know more about these?

I haven't looked at it, personally. But it would probably be fairly trivial to create a model viewer of some sort.
